Aberconwy Historical Society

On the 10th of April we had a visit from the Societe Vaudois Historique Association. They were from the Swiss Canton of Vaud, once part of Savoy, the birthplace of James of St George the master builder who designed Conwy Castle for Edward 1. The visit to north Wales was arranged by John Marshall an Historian and author and approx 30 members for their society were retracing his footsteps with a full itinerary.

A reception was held for the party at the Guildhall with the deputy Mayor Jannette Hughes and several members of the council in attendance plus the Chair and Treasurer from the Aberconwy Historical Society and Chris Roberts from the music festival.

After an initial contact with the Aberconwy Historical Society, Cathryn Williams took over and arranged everything with the council. It is now hoped that the two societies can gain a close association in the future.

Jubilee Event at the Culture Centre

The society held a one-off event to celebrate 70 years of the Queen's reign and

70 years of the Aberconwy Historical Society which started in November 1951.

The meeting started with a short talk from one of the archive staff about the Queen

in Conwy over the years. We then opened the discussion to the members to talk

about their personal memories of the Queen's reign. We held a lively quiz and then

the members enjoyed teas and cakes and the opportunity to mix with one another

in a party atmosphere.
